What wall graphics are and where they work best
Wall graphics are printed or cut branding applied directly to painted plaster, drywall, brick, concrete, sealed tiles or other suitable wall surfaces. They can carry a company logo, campaign artwork, service information, directional messages or a full mural effect. For reception areas, they create a strong first impression without taking up floor space. In retail, they help with promotions, wayfinding and seasonal changeovers. On exterior walls they can be used for visibility from the street, parking area or entrance point.
They suit offices, shop fronts, warehouses, clinics, schools, municipal buildings and event venues. In Pretoria and Gauteng, many clients use wall graphics where they want a high impact look with less maintenance than painted branding. For coastal or high-humidity use is not a problem around Hartbeespoort and the wider region, but the wall must be properly prepared and dry before fitting.
- Reception branding and lobby features
- Retail promotions and sale messages
- Directional signage inside buildings
- Exterior branding on sheltered walls
- Campaign graphics for launches and activations
Material options, sizes and finishes
We produce wall graphics in a range of formats depending on the surface, the lifespan needed and how detailed the artwork is. Short term campaign graphics are often printed on removable vinyl for easy changeovers. Longer term branding may use durable cast vinyl, laminated print, or a combination of printed panels and cut lettering. Where a wall needs to be covered more fully, panelled graphics can be set up in sections for easier handling on site.
Sizes are made to suit the wall, from small logo marks of around 600 mm wide through to full wall coverage of 10 metres or more. For large interiors and shop floors, graphics can be produced in multiple panels to match the wall height and access limits. Common finishes include matt for reducing glare under office lighting, and gloss where stronger colour pop is needed. In areas with strong sunlight, a UV-stable laminate helps protect the print.
- Cut vinyl lettering and logos
- Printed wall murals and feature panels
- Removable campaign graphics
- Permanent branded walls with protective laminate
- Matte or gloss finish depending on the space
Installation conditions and site requirements
Wall graphics fit best on smooth, sound and clean surfaces. Fresh paint should be fully cured before installation, and dusty or chalky walls need sealing first. Hairline cracks, damp patches and flaking paint can affect adhesion, so a site survey helps identify what needs to be fixed before the job starts. In older buildings around Pretoria and Centurion, surface prep is often the difference between a neat result and a short lifespan.
Most wall graphics do not need electrical power or gas. If the job includes illuminated elements, we will check the power point position and cable route separately. For standard wall branding, the main needs are access, safe working space and a wall that can take the material. If a lift, scaffold or after-hours installation is needed, that is arranged around the site conditions and the property rules. Some sites also need landlord approval or municipal checking, especially for exterior work facing public space.
- Measured wall size and height clearance
- Surface type and paint condition
- Access for ladders, scaffold or a lift if required
- Lighting conditions and glare at different times of day
- Any permit, landlord or municipal approval needed
How we handle design, print and fitting
HM Graphics & Signs manages the full process from concept through to installation. Our graphic designer prepares the layout to scale, checks image quality and sets the colours for print. For brand rollouts, we can match the same style across several branches in Tshwane, Brits, Akasia, Rosslyn and Soshanguve, so the look stays consistent from site to site. Where the wall is uneven or the artwork needs exact alignment, we break the job into sections and mark it out carefully before application.
Our installation team works on site with the correct tools for trimming, smoothing and alignment. For bigger walls, we plan the sequence so joins are placed where they are least visible. If the wall is part of a live retail or office space, we can schedule work around trading hours to limit disruption. Clear access and a prepared wall help us finish faster, and it also reduces the chance of bubbles or lifting at the edges.
- Site survey and measurement
- Artwork preparation and proofing
- In-house printing and fabrication
- On-site fitting by our installation team
- Optional maintenance, replacement or campaign changeover
Care, cleaning and service life
Wall graphics are low maintenance, but they still need proper care if you want them to last. Dust can be wiped off with a soft dry cloth or a lightly damp microfibre cloth. Harsh chemicals, abrasive pads and high-pressure washing should be avoided because they can damage the finish. On exterior walls, dirt and direct sun can shorten the life of the graphic, especially if the wall takes weather from the afternoon side.
Interior graphics usually last well in offices, showrooms and reception spaces if the wall is stable and the surface prep was done properly. In busy retail areas, scuff marks and trolley contact can cause wear, so a protective laminate may be worth adding. If a section is damaged, we can replace that panel or portion instead of redoing the full wall. That helps keep costs down and keeps your branding looking tidy.
- Dust regularly and clean gently
- Avoid strong solvents and scrubbing pads
- Keep the wall dry and free from damp issues
- Inspect edges after load-shedding related heat or humidity changes
- Replace worn sections rather than the full wall where possible
Before Ordering a Branded Gazebo
Before ordering wall graphics, it helps to have a few basics ready. We need the wall dimensions, the surface type, the location of the wall and the wording or artwork you want used. If the wall sits in a passage, reception or retail queue area, think about viewing distance. Small text that looks fine on a screen may be too small once it is on the wall. If there is direct sunlight, reflections from windows or strong downlights, we may suggest a matt finish for better visibility.
Also check whether the wall is painted, newly plastered or already branded. A fresh coat of paint can need time to cure, and dusty masonry needs proper prep before fitting. If your site is in a mall, office park or municipal building, there may be approval steps and working-hour restrictions. The more detail you send through the enquiry form, the more accurate the quote and installation plan will be. It saves back-and-forth and helps us match the graphic to the space properly.
