Akasia Property Boards

This Akasia property board rollout supported a new land and housing launch across several roadside positions in Tshwane. HM Graphics & Signs handled the survey, artwork, manufacture, permit support and installation so the boards could go up on schedule.

Akasia Property Boards

Project brief for a roadside property launch

The client needed a clear, visible board campaign for a new property launch in Akasia, with signs placed at more than one roadside position to catch traffic coming from different directions. The brief was simple on paper: make the launch easy to notice, keep the message readable at speed, and ensure the boards stood up to wind, dust and full sun on open roadside sites.

Because the sites were spread out, the branding had to stay consistent while still allowing each board to work in its own position. Some locations sat near faster-moving traffic, while others were closer to turns, accesses and municipal servitudes. That meant the size, height and fixing method had to be planned properly from the start. We also had to keep the rollout practical for a launch team working to a fixed opening date, so every step needed to happen in sequence with no hold ups.

Site checks, measurements and permit guidance

We started with site surveys in and around Akasia to confirm viewing distances, available ground space and any obstructions such as poles, verge slopes, power lines and existing boundary fencing. On roadside boards, small details matter. If a sign sits too low or too far back from the edge of the route, people miss it. If it is too high or too close to a junction, the board can be hard to read and may not align with local approval requirements.

Our team also looked at the practical side of installation, including soil condition, access for drilling and the safest time of day to work alongside traffic. Where permit input was needed, we guided the client on the information required for municipal submissions and helped shape the board specs to suit likely approval conditions. That saved time later because the layout was prepared with the right dimensions and placement in mind from day one.

  • On-site measurements for each roadside position
  • Viewing angle checks for approaching vehicles
  • Clearance review for verges, poles and boundary lines
  • Permit support and sign placement guidance

Artwork setup and sign specifications

The creative work needed to stay sharp and direct. For a property launch, people usually have only a few seconds to read the message, so we kept the wording short and the layout clean. Ayanda Mavuso prepared the artwork for large-format output, making sure the title, key callouts and directional cues could be read from a moving vehicle. We checked spacing, contrast and logo placement so the message did not become crowded once scaled up.

The main boards were produced as durable outdoor units with UV-stable print and protective finishing suited to Gauteng sun and dust. Fixings were selected for roadside conditions, and the message panels were sized for strong visibility without creating unnecessary wind load. In several positions, we used boards around 2400 mm by 1200 mm for clear roadside reading, with reinforced mounting where the exposure was greater. The client also wanted the brand to remain consistent across all sites, so every file was matched carefully before production.

  • Large-format artwork prepared for roadside readability
  • Outdoor print with UV-resistant finish
  • Consistent brand layout across several positions
  • Dimensions planned for visibility and wind exposure

In-house manufacture for tough local conditions

Production was handled in-house at our Hartbeespoort base, which allowed us to manage the full set of boards without splitting work between suppliers. Retief Wessels and Riaan Odendaal set up the fabrication sequence so the frame work, print application and finishing all stayed on the same production timetable. That matters on a project like this, because roadside boards need straight panels, solid joins and neat edges if they are going to look right when installed.

We used materials suited to outdoor exposure and coated the relevant steelwork to help with corrosion resistance, especially important in areas where morning moisture and dust can be a factor. The boards were assembled with proper fixing points, then checked for alignment before dispatch. Revasha Desai coordinated client updates while Lerato Mthembu kept the rollout schedule moving between production and site dates. That coordination helped avoid delays, even when the work had to be slotted around other launch activities.

Roadside installation across Akasia positions

Kagiso Ndlovu led the installation team on site, with the boards delivered in sequence so each position could be completed efficiently. The install work was planned around traffic flow and access, which is often the deciding factor on roadside jobs. We set out the mounting points, checked level, secured the frames and confirmed that each board sat at the right height for passing motorists. On one or two sites, the ground needed a bit of adjustment before fixing could go ahead, and that was handled on the day so the schedule stayed intact.

The final boards were placed to support the launch from multiple directions, giving the client better visibility from key approach routes into Akasia. Once each board was in place, we inspected the finish, tightened the fixings and checked that the message was clean from both near and far viewing distances. The result was a consistent campaign that made the property launch feel established from the first week on site. Weather held for most of the install window, but we still worked in short shifts to avoid unnecessary exposure to strong sun and sudden wind.

  • Multi-site roadside installation in one rollout
  • Level and height checked at each position
  • Fixings tightened and finish inspected on completion
  • Boards positioned for visibility from key approaches

What the rollout achieved and what we would repeat

The campaign gave the client immediate roadside presence for the new launch, with boards that were easy to spot and simple to understand. That helped create a stronger first impression for people passing through Akasia and surrounding routes into Pretoria and Tshwane. It also gave the sales team a practical way to direct interest to the property from several angles, rather than relying on a single sign in one spot.

If we were repeating this job, we would follow the same process again: start with site surveys, confirm the approval requirements early, keep the artwork tight and install in planned stages. That approach kept the project under control from the first measurement to the final tightening of bolts. For property launches in busy roadside areas, that is usually the difference between a board that looks good on paper and one that actually works in the field.

HM Graphics & Signs continues to support property clients, retailers and municipalities with launch boards, directional signage and maintenance after installation. For Akasia and the wider Pretoria area, the same practical process still applies: measure carefully, build it properly and install it where people can really see it.

Questions we get asked

Can you handle property boards for more than one roadside position?

Yes. We often plan one campaign across several positions so the message stays consistent and each board works for its own traffic flow and viewing angle.

Do you assist with permit requirements for roadside signs?

Yes. We help guide the sign specs and site details needed for municipal submissions, which makes the approval process easier to manage.

Lead time depends on board size, quantity, artwork readiness and whether installation is needed on site in Akasia.

A straightforward rollout can take about 2 weeks, depending on site access, approval needs and how many boards must be made and installed.
